Sendax Mini Dental Implant (MDI) system is comprised of 1.8mm and 2.2mm diameter. Titanium alloy (6/4 extra low interstitial), solid screw implant with a modified buttress thread and an aluminum oxide prepared surface. It has either an O ball head for removable or fixed prosthetics, or a square head for fixed prosthetics and/or retrofitting an ailing fixed partial denture (FPD). The Sendax MDI is the first – and currently only- mini implant approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for long-term usage. Although placing MDI is considered a minor procedure.

The Sendax MDI protocol does not use a flap or full depth osteotomy. Using a pilot drill (1.1mm) to puncture through the mucosa, periosteum, and cortical plate usually does not create a hemorrhage problem.

Hypertension
Very little anesthetic is used in the MDI procedure-from as little as 4 to 5 drops of local anesthetic per site to 1 or 1.5 carpules for bilateral mental nerve blocks and infiltration.

Diabetes
Well controlled diabetics pose no special risk with this procedure, but it would be prudent to prescribe an appropriate antibiotic regimen. Balshi and Wolfinger recommended that patients be in metabolic control, have antibiotic protection, and avoid smoking before the procedure for implant treatment to be successful.

Immunocompomised and Chemotherapy Patients
Patients undergoing chemotherapy or who have human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) are certainly treatable; however, an appropriate antibiotic regimen would be advised. Moreover, it is important to monitor appropriate white blood cell levels in these patients. It is known that immunosuppressive agents can affect bone metabolism.
